In case you arrive in Darmstadt early or find some time in the evening, we compiled a list of extracurricular activities in Darmstadt:

Sightseeing:

Darmstadt is a Center of the Art Nouveau (Jugendstil), a style of art, architecture and applied art popular between 1890 and 1910. The most famous Art Nouveau sites in Darmstadt are the Jugendstilbad, a public pool and spa, and the Mathildenhöhe.

Additionally, the Staatstheater (hessian state theater), the nearby Kuppelkirche (a church), the Luisenplatz, the Landesmuseum (the hessian state museum) and the Herrngarten (a beautiful park) a worth a visit.

Shopping:

Darmstadt has a vast variety of shops located mostly in the City Center around the Luisenplatz. The easiest way to find shops is by starting in the Luisencenter directly at Luisenplatz and from there by staying in the pedestrian zone exploring the city.

Socializing and Nightlife:

Darmstadt is full of cafes, pubs, and restaurants that offer regional specialities and great atmosphere. Upon arrival you’ll receive a list with recommendations compiled by students from Darmstadt in your welcome package.
